Isha Koppikar will be seen in a punjabi avtaar for her digital debut with “Lovely Da Dhaba”. The lady looked resplendent as she waited for the press meet to begin to announce the launch of her new webseries on Gemplex OTT platform.
When asked about the digital space, Isha feels although it bridges the gap between the audience & the actor, it is equally challenging in comparison to cinema because actors are just a click away from the audiences views “The kind of storytelling & performing opportunity that artists are getting is exceptional. Web series are not about the most famous face in the business, it is about actors”
“In web series, actresses enjoy both quality & quantity of role. There is a meaning to every scene & frame of my character. Lovely is the main protagonist, she is heading the series” adds Isha.
Isha also fills in about the difference of length & quality of role for an actress in a Bollywood film vs Web Series “Lovely Da Dhaba is one project which has satisfied me creatively. That’s the beauty of digital space, it gives an artist a platform to explore & showcase their credentials”
Isha, who is playing the character of Lovely Kaur Dhillon is as the name suggests a sikhni in the series. She is playing the widow of an army martyr, Capt. Rupinder Dhillon
Kenny Chhabra director says “This short series has six episodes, a different story with Lovely playing the connecting thread. Though it’s her debut in web series, the Khallas girl considers herself to be quite a trendsetter with the choice & variety of roles she has played, be it Shabri, Ek Vivaah… Aisa Bhi, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Krishna Cottage, Qayamat: City Under Threat & many more. In the web series she finds an excellent platform to reach the masses. “Theatre is expensive; look at a phone’s reach — even a rehri, rikshaw-wala has it.”
Isha is enjoying playing ‘lively’ Lovely, “I love Punjab. The whole energy that this place imbues; people full of passion, vigour, ready to put in their all for their dreams,”
Lovely Da Dhaba is a slice of life series featuring Isha, who is running a Dhaba on the outskirts of a national highway in Punjab with the spirit of “Seva”. After losing her husband, Lovely starts her own Dhaba to serve the people, whereby making it a point to bring joy & happiness in everyone’s life with her special cooking skills & sprinkling wonderful philosophies of life.
The event was hosted at The Great Indian Dhaba which celebrates with pride the global Indian & Chinese cuisine and hence the food and cocktails reflect the same sentiments.
The series is produced by Prakash Tiwari and Directed by Kenny Chhabra and is set to release on 30th September 2019 on a new OTT Platform.
